We believe dancers are best served when they are fully immersed in a real-world, training experience in order to test their limits, hone their unique skills and develop their artistry and technique. DEViATE Dance aims to create these experiences, within a nurturing environment, by challenging the conventional ways to better prepare dancers to Go In and Stand Out.

What’s New for 2021-22

NEW CITY!

Spartanburg, SC!

Competition fees

We believe competition fees have gotten way too expensive—and we want to change that! Like always, every studio can compete at no cost at all—receiving 10 Competition entries for FREE! Each additional entry is only $159….per entry, NOT per dancer! Each studio can now bring up to 25 routines! We can’t wait to see you all at The Process!

Critique Tapes for Teachers

Teachers will receive one critique tape for each of their routines, with feedback tailored specifically for teachers' ears. This critique tape will come from one faculty member, who is focused exclusively on providing constructive and meaningful verbal feedback and not scoring the routines.

Teacher Seminar

The Process is also a time for teachers to come together, network, and hone their own skills. We will offer a teacher seminar specifically for studio owners and their staff to discuss what we are seeing in the dancers and offer ideas to help your students when you are back in the studio.

Mini Mania

Dance is often inspired by other art forms. That’s why we’ve added a new session for the mini’s to help them “flex those creative muscles” - from drawing, to creative play.

Parent/Teacher Classes

We know it’s a long weekend for the parents and teachers, and you need some time to let loose and get moving. That is why we are offering some fun options for you to show off your skills. Don’t worry, no dance experience required!

dancers can reach their full potential.

No Fee Competition

Expensive competition fees are a thing of the past. Every studio receives 10 free competition routines! We believe competition should be about quality, not quantity. That is why we’ve limited the number of routines that can be entered to 25 per studio. By doing so, we spend less time competing and more time in classes learning

Critique Tapes for Teachers

Teachers will receive one critique tape for each of their routines, with feedback tailored specifically for teachers' ears. This critique tape will come from one faculty member, who is focused exclusively on providing constructive and meaningful verbal feedback and not scoring the routines.

The other three judges will be responsible for scoring the routines and therefore, will not be providing verbal feedback. We know it's a little different from the typical competition, but we aren't the typical competition!

For dancers, we believe the real value in competition comes from the performance experience, but the classroom is where our faculty can give constructive, meaningful, individual feedback to dancers. That is why we will be leaving the dancer critiques to the classroom, where we can work with students, hands-on, in order to help them improve. In addition, during the Audition Lab, all Juniors and Seniors will receive personalized, written feedback to take home.

Scoring

We will be awarding the top 3 routines in each division. Everyone that competes will receive a Certificate of Completion, congratulating them for getting out there, showcasing their hard work and preparation, and performing to the best of their ability. (Don't worry, we have a few special Awards too!)
